New goodies

Just got a nice little package in the mail from a vintage shop on etsy.  I really like the sheer volume of cool old vintage clothes this shop has to offer.  Everything you could ever want: 70s pantsuit onsie? no problem! arctic fox fur stole? you bet! Check it out: Fashionista NV

Anyways, I opted to buy a detachable pearl collar.  It arrived packaged in a drier sheet, which made the entire package smell like a boquet of flowers.  What a lovely touch.

I'm even getting a teeny bit better at taking self-portraits.  Teeny.
Also, in unrelated news, my shoes match the old cupboards from the 70s in my office:

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Vintage bathing suit conundrum

So, bathing suit season is coming up, and I need a new one.  I really really reallllyyy want a vintage bathing suit... I absolutely love the 50s and  60s (and 70s!) pin up style:

 Plus I found some really cute ones on etsy!

I just don't know how I feel about used bathing suits... ya know? I just don't like the thought of other parts touching where my parts will go.  Was that vague enough for you?  You know what I'm saying... 

I dunno, call me a prude, I just can't seem to wrap my head around it.

NYFW

As many blog readers may know, it's fashion week in New York.  Although I've never been to New York or to a fashion week... I'm still indirectly excited. 

Apparently for the past few years, sustainability has gotten a bit of a nod at NYFW.  There's actually a competition (CDFA/Lexus Eco-fashion challenge) for the best line that uses at least 25% sustainable materials.   Yes yes, that number is arbitrary and 'sustainable materials' is vague... but it's a step in the right direction, no?  Well, whatever you may think, you can cast your vote at Ecouterre.

One of this years frontrunners is Marcia Patmos.  She uses domestic production, local yarns, and zero-waste techniques.  Plus her clothes are just beautiful. 

Spring wardrobe picture fail

So, spring is finally starting to poke its sunny little head over to Dunedin.  I've been so excited this week that I've dusted off some of my favorite spring dresses... heck.. one time I even didn't wear a coat! My body felt strange without all that fabric on it.  Anyways, moral of this story is that I thought I would take the opportunity to wear cute outfits and document them... like a real fashion blog.
However, I come to find out this is much harder than it looks.  I thought that if I set my camera timer up and ran in front of it doing something fashion blog pose-ey that it would look cool.  Instead I either look like a hunchback or else 15% of my body is actually in the picture.  Exhibit A

Not only do I look albino, but when I showed it to my boyfriend he collapsed in laughter and said it looked like I had "brushed my hair with a chicken wing".  It's called having a SHOWER in the morning people! YEESH.
So then I got bored and started taking pictures of a spider trying to eat a giant fly outside my house:

Well, spring photo shoot failed miserably... Clearly I need a weeeeeeee bit more practice.  Either that or this will become a blog about the diet of spiders.
